EVERETT — The competition for overage spots on the 2010-11 Everett Silvertips roster just got a little less heated.
Left wing Dan Iwanski, who was one of six players eligible for Everett’s three overage spot, will not return next season. A team spokesman said Iwanski is exploring his educational opportunities.
Iwanski arrived in Everett in January of 2009 as part of the trade that sent Kyle Beach to Lethbridge, appearing in 76 games over the course of one-and-a-half seasons. Last season knee injuries limited him to 43 games, in which he tallied 10 goals and six assists. He came on strong toward the end of the season after being placed on a line with Clayton Cumiskey and Scott MacDonald, accumulating eight points in the final nine games of the regular season. He added three goals and an assist in seven playoff games.
With Iwanski out of the mix, Everett has five potential overagers on its roster: Cumiskey, defensemen Radko Gudas, Chris de la Lande and Curtis Kulchar, and goaltender Thomas Heemskerk. However, both Gudas and Heemskerk are expected to play professionally in the minor leagues next season.
