The Silvertips announced Thursday that Mike Lysyj is joining the Everett coaching staff an assistant, replacing Harry Mahood, who resigned his position.
Lysyj, 30, was a volunteer assistant at Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute (RPI), a NCAA Division-I program, before landing a job in Everett. The Hillsborough, New Jersey native spent four seasons as an assistant coach at SUNY-Fredonia to start his coaching career in 2014.
Lysyj played NCAA Division-III hockey at SUNY-Cortland and played 29 games in the Southern Professional Hockey League (SPHL) for the Mississippi Surge. Lysyj was a forward and a left-handed shot during his playing days.
Mahood moves on after one season as an assistant in Everett. Per a release from the Silvertips, Mahood said he and his family have moved to New York after his wife, Sarah, was afforded “an opportunity of a lifetime” in the airline industry.
