Scouting report
Tonight is the one and only meeting of the season between Everett (16-14-5-0) and Red Deer (15-19-0-5). Everett is attempting to stop a four-game losing streak against visiting Central Division opposition.
Red Deer is in the second season of a rebuilding process and would be out of the playoffs if the season ended today. However, with younger players filling the key roles, the Rebels have improved as the season has progressed, winning seven of their past 10 games.
Red Deer is led by a pair of 17-year-olds who are potential first-round picks in this year’s NHL draft. Center Landon Ferraro (21 goals, 14 assists) is the team’s leading scorer, while Finnish defenseman Tommi Kivisto (16 assists) is Red Deer’s top blueliner. Eighteen-year-old left wing Cass Mappin (15 goals, 16 assists) is the Rebels’ other offensive weapon.
In goal, 18-year-old rookie Darcy Kuemper (11-10-0-3, 2.52 goals against average, .914 save percentage) has performed well.
