RED DEER, Alberta — The offensive woes continued Tuesday for the Everett Silvertips.
For the third consecutive game the Tips mustered only one goal, and the Red Deer Rebels cruised to a 4-1 victory before 3,977 fans at Enmax Centrium.
“We had our opportunities,” Everett head coach Dennis Williams said. “Their goalie made some big saves on the power play there at the end and our puck movement was good. Our energy level was good. We’re just having a hard time finding the back of the net right now and it’s not going to get much easier heading into Medicine Hat (Wednesday).”
The Tips (3-5-0, six points) came up empty on six power-play chances and have dropped two straight. They tallied a single goal in a 1-0 win at Calgary Friday and in a 5-1 loss at Edmonton on Sunday.
The Rebels (4-3-0, eight points) scored three straight after Orrin Centazzo’s goal tied the game in the second period.
The Tips played without overage defenseman Kevin Davis who was scratched due to illness. Gianni Fairbrother took Davis’s spot in the lineup while Wyatte Wylie joined Jake Christiansen on the top pairing.
Williams said Davis is day-to-day.
“I think he’s one of the top defensemen in the league,” Williams said. “I hope he’s ready to go (Wednesday), but we’re not going to press that if he’s not 100 percent.”
Everett remains without goaltenders Carter Hart (mononucleosis) and Dustin Wolf (hip surgery). Dorrin Luding, who has seen the bulk of the playing time at goaltender for Everett, saved 31 of the 35 shots he faced.
Luding was out-dueled by Red Deer rookie netminder Ethan Anders, who saved 28 of the 29 shots he saw.
The lone Everett highlight came early in the second period. Ethan Browne won a faceoff and played the puck to Centazzo, who buried it past Anders to tie the game 1-1 at 4:16 in the second period. It came during a 4-on-4 situation as the teams had exchanged penalties.
The Rebels then scored twice to take a 3-1 lead through two periods. Grayson Pawlenchuk gave Red Deer the lead with a wrister from the right circle at 9:21. Then Kristian Reichel scored with an assist from Lane Zablocki at 18:12.
It was the second time the two had teamed up for a goal as Zablocki stashed a rebound of a Reichel point shot past Luding for the game’s first goal on the power play just 1:33 into the opening period.
Jared Dmytriw iced the game with an empty-netter at 18:29 in the third.
Pawlenchuk, Reichel and Zablocki all finished with a goal and an assist.
The Silvertips are back in action at 6 p.m. Wednesday when they play at Medicine Hat.
