The Everett Silvertips selected defenseman Eric Doyle in the first round of today’s 2004 Western Hockey League Bantam Draft.
Doyle, from Calgary, Alberta, was the 15th overall selection. The Silvertips acquired the No. 15 pick by trading their first-round spot (13th overall) to Calgary for the Hitmen’s first- and fourth-round choices.
Doyle, who stands 6-foot-1 and weighs 180 pounds, played this past season for the Calgary Bisons (Bantam AA). In 32 games, he tallied 26 goals and 20 assists.
Prince George had the No. 1 pick in the draft and selected Ryan Kerr, a defenseman from Lions Bay, British Columbia.
In subsequent rounds, the Silvertips picked defenseman-left wing Keegan Bourelle from North Battleford, Saskatchewan (second round, 27th overall), center Zack Dailey from Sherwood Park, Alberta (third round, 53rd overall) and goalkeeper Chris Ward from Winnipeg, Manitoba (fourth round, 75th overall).
The 2004 Bantam Draft is for players born in 1989. They will not be eligible to play full-time in the WHL until they turn 16.
