LANGLEY, British Columbia — Any concerns the Everett Silvertips had about the holiday break affecting their performance were quickly alleviated.
The Silvertips set a team record with 11 goals as they crushed the host Vancouver Giants 11-0 before 4,046 fans at Langley Events Centre.
Everett (22-13-1-1, 46 points) maintained its place atop the U.S. Division and Western Conference standings. The Tips have now won 11 of their past 12 contests.
Making the victory all the more impressive was that the Giants (18-14-2-2, 40 points) had won six straight games entering the contest to creep within three points of the B.C. Division lead.
Riley Sutter scored four goals and added an assist to lead the Everett offense, but there were many other offensive stars. Connor Dewar had two goals and three assists, Orrin Centazzo scored twice, Patrick Bajkov had three assists, Bryce Kindopp added two and Sean Richards had a goal and an assist.
Both Sutter and Dewar found the net twice in the first period as Everett took a 4-0 lead into the first break.
Sutter opened the scoring on the power play at 2:28 when he banked a shot off Vancouver goalie David Tendeck’s skate for the 1-0 lead.
Sutter’s second tally came when he roofed a snap shot past Tendeck at 12:43.
Dewar finished a two-one-one with a backhanded deke for the 3-0 lead at 16:00, and added a wrister from the slot on a delayed penalty at 19:05.
It snowballed in the second as Everett added five more. Sutter completed his hat trick when he deflected in Dewar’s shot at 2:21.
Richards, Centazzo, Jake Christiansen and Matt Fonteyne added goals before the period ended as the Tips took a 9-0 lead into the second intermission.
Sutter’s fourth goal came at 11:28 and tied the team record as the Tips’ lead swelled to 10-0. Centazzo’s second of the night at 17:18 set the new franchise record.
Lost in the offensive onslaught was rookie goaltender Dustin Wolf saving all 24 shots to record his second career shutout.
Everett outshot the Giants 29-24 and were 2-for-6 on the power play. Vancouver was 0-for-2.
The teams square off again at 7:35 p.m. Friday at Angel of the Winds Arena.
