Silvertips stymied by Kamloops in 3-1 loss

KAMLOOPS, B.C. — The Everett Silvertips showed plenty of jump playing their third game in three nights.

However, they couldn’t solve the problem of Jeff Bosch.

Bosch, the Kamloops Blazers goaltender, made 38 saves, leading the Blazers to a 3-1 victory over the Tips on Sunday night.

Everett, which won its previous two games this weekend, outshot Kamloops 39-26. However, Bosch made several big saves to keep the puck out of the net.

Kamloops (11-9-0-1) also took advantage of its power plays, scoring on both its chances. Jordan DePape scored both power-play goals, and Brendan Ranford added an insurance goal for the Blazers.

Kellan Tochkin scored the lone goal for Everett (8-8-1-3). Kent Simpson made 23 saves in goal for the Tips.

Everett continued to be without captain Landon Ferraro and overage center Parker Stanfield. Ferraro missed his second straight game because of an upper-body injury. Stanfield sat out his fifth straight because of a concussion.

Kamloops jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the first period, with DePape scoring on each of the Blazers’ two power plays. DePape opened the scoring at 11:55, putting in the rebound when Chase Schaber’s shot came off the crossbar. DePape then scored again at 15:24, scoring on a nice feed from Brendan Ranford following a rebound.

Everett got on the board 6:19 into the second period with a power-play goal of its own. Tochkin won a battle for the puck, then beat Bosch with a quick shot to the near post, cutting the deficit to 2-1.

Bosch made a big save on Tyler Maxwell early in the third period to prevent the Tips from tying it up. Then Ranford gave the Blazers a two-goal advantage, firing a wrist shot off the rush that eluded Simpson to make it 3-1.

The Tips continued to pressure the Kamloops goal the rest of the game, but it wasn’t to be as Bosch made big saves on Markus McCrea and Tochkin to preserve the two-goal win.
