PORTLAND, Ore. – Riley Armstrong scored early in the third period and Michael Wall made 25 saves as the Everett Silvertips tied the Portland Winter Hawks 1-1 Thursday night in a Western Hockey League game at the Rose Garden.
Everett (12-10-4-1) came away with a victory and a tie from its back-to-back games against the Winter Hawks.
The Tips maintained their spot in third place in the U.S. Division, two points ahead of Portland (12-13-3-0), and moved within one point of second-place Tri-City.
The Tips have surrendered just four goals in their last six games, going 4-1-1.
Armstrong scored his seventh goal of the season on a five-on-three power play at 6 minutes, 12 seconds of the third period to tie it.
In overtime, Ivan Baranka and Bryan Nathe each had good scoring chances for Everett, and Wall, making his second straight start in place of the ill Jeff Harvey, made three saves during a span of five seconds with Everett shorthanded.
Dan Da Silva scored at 14:50 of the first period for Portland.
