Scouting report
Spokane comes to town still somewhat of an unknown. The Chiefs (1-1) are one of two teams in the Western Hockey League to have played just twice, losing 4-2 at Kootenay two Saturdays ago and winning 4-1 at home against Tri-City last Saturday.
Tonight is the first of nine meetings this season between the two teams. The Silvertips (1-2) feasted on the Chiefs last season, winning the season series 7-2-1.
Spokane is led by 20-year-old center Chad Klassen (two goals), the only Chief with more than one goal so far this season. Klassen scored a total of 155 points the past two seasons. Klassen is supported by 20-year-old left wing Jeff Lynch (three assists), 19-year-old center Derek Ryan (two assists) and 19-year-old rookie left wing Johannes Salmonsson, who’s coming off a groin injury.
In goal, 19-year-old Jim Watt (1-1, 2.02 goals against average, .926 save percentage) is in his second full season as Spokane’s No. 1.
For Everett, there’s a good chance captain Torrie Wheat will be back in the lineup. Wheat missed Everett’s past two games because of a foot injury and is still considered questionable for today’s game. However, the 20-year-old right wing practiced at full speed Tuesday.
