PRINCE ALBERT, Saskatchewan – The Everett Silvertips just keep rolling along.
Everett continued its winning ways in dominating fashion, defeating the Prince Albert Raiders 6-2 Friday night.
Zach Hamill and Taylor Ellington each scored twice and Peter Mueller added a goal and two assists for Everett (12-1-0-1), which won its seventh straight. A victory tonight in Regina and the Silvertips will match the franchise-record winning streak, set last season.
Brady Calla also scored, Kyle Beach had two assists and Leland Irving made 20 saves in goal for Everett. The Tips also dominated the special-teams battle, scoring on three of their first four power plays and holding the Raiders 0-for-10 with the advantage.
Hamill’s goals continued his point streak. He’s now scored in all 14 of Everett’s games this season. Ellington’s goals were his first regular-season goals in three years.
Matt Robertson and Ryan DePape each had a goal and an assist for Prince Albert (6-8-2-0). Tyler Esau made 18 saves on 23 shots in goal for the Raiders before being yanked early in the third period. David Aime stopped seven of the eight shots he faced in relief.
Everett needed just 57 seconds to get on the scoreboard. Hamill skated in and, although his initial shot was saved, he was able to put in his own rebound to give the Tips a dream start. The Tips then gave the goal back at 5:28 as Irving misplayed a puck, allowing Robertson to score to tie it at 1-1. Everett restored its lead at 10:04 on the power play, Ellington scoring on a shot from the point.
Everett weathered a long stretch of short-handed time, including a full two minutes of five-on-three, at the end of the first period. Then the penalties swung Everett’s way at the beginning of the second and the Tips capitalized to take control of the game.
First, at 3:23, Ellington scored on a shot from the point just before a five-on-three power play expired. Then 49 seconds later with Everett still on the power play, Hamill scored down low after a nice pass from Mueller, giving the Tips a 4-1 lead.
Prince Albert cut it to 4-2 at 5:09 when DePape found a loose puck in front and scored. The Raiders appeared to score again during a power play with 3:51 remaining in the period, but Josh Elder was judged to have kicked the puck in, nullifying the goal.
The Tips then put the game away in the third, with Mueller scoring 1:40 in and Calla scoring at 6:53.
