Jake Heaps, a junior quarterback at Skyline High School in Sammamish, has been named the 2008-09 Gatorade Washington Football Player of the Year. The 6-foot-2, 195-pound junior had passed for 2,558 yards and 33 touchdowns with just three interceptions at the time of his selection.
Heaps will lead unbeaten Skyline (13-0) against Issaquah (11-2) at 7:30 tonight in the Class 4A state championship game at the Tacoma Dome.
Heaps is a finalist for the Gatorade National Football Player of the Year award.
Last year’s Gatorade Washington Football Player of the Year was Edmonds-Woodway’s Tony Heard.
