Snap count notes from Seahawks Week 17 victory over St. Louis

Full playing time numbers are below, but first a few notes:

Offense

—For the first time this season, Paul Richardson led receivers in playing time, appearing on 77 percent of the snaps, though Doug Baldwin played just one fewer. Kevin Norwood also had one of his busiest days of the year because of Jermaine Kearse’s injury, playing 63 percent of the snaps after being inactive the previous two games.

—Marshawn Lynch didn’t miss a quarter like he did a week earlier, but he still had a slightly lighter work load than usual, playing 55 percent of the snaps, while Robert Turbin played 40 percent. Whether that’s just the way the game went or by design, Lynch taking on a lighter load the past two games could benefit him and the offense in the playoffs.

—Alvin Bailey played seven snaps as an extra lineman, while Garry Gilliam played one.

—In addition to playing 26 percent of the snaps on offense at fullback, Will Tukuafu again did double duty, playing three snaps as a defensive lineman.

Defense

—Earl Thomas, Kam Chancellor, Richard Sherman, Byron Maxwell and Bobby Wagner played all 62 snaps on defense.

—Michael Bennett, who has taken on a huge workload all season, did so again Sunday, playing 92 percent of the snaps, while Cliff Avril wasn’t far behind at 84 percent.

—Because of KJ Wright’s injury, Malcolm Smith played 26 percent of the defensive snaps, the Super Bowl MVP’s most significant playing time since the defense returned to full health, making him the odd man out at linebacker.

Special teams

—Because the Seahawks used their base defense on several St. Louis punts for fear of a fake, everyone on defense participated on special teams, and of the entire active roster, the only players who didn’t participate on special teams were Tony Moeaki, Patrick Lewis, Kevin Norwood, Marshawn Lynch, Russell Wilson and Tarvaris Jackson.

—The group of core special teams players remained the same with Jeremy Lane, Malcolm Smith, DeShawn Shead, Mike Morgan and Brock Coyle all playing 73 percent of the snaps. Jeron Johnson is part of that group as well, but played two fewer plays because of his elbow injury late in the game.
