Snohomish beats Lake Stevens in OT on penalty kick

SNOHOMISH – Heidi Dettmer’s penalty kick goal with less than a minute to play in overtime gave Snohomish a 1-0 victory over Lake Stevens Tuesday in a loser-out District 1 girls soccer game at Snohomish.

“I feel great,” Dettmer said. “It’s an amazing feeling to have an opportunity to win the game for the team.

“It was a very aggressive game. Both teams played hard.”

Dettmer, a senior midfielder, put her shot into the left corner of the goal. It was her first penalty kick of the season and second goal.

The Panthers were awarded the penalty kick after one of their players was fouled in the box.

The Panthers advanced to a winner-to-state, loser out game at 5:30 p.m. Thursday at Mount Vernon H.S.
