Snohomish clinches district berth

OAK HARBOR — The Panthers remained undefeated in the Wesco North and secured a spot in the district playoffs with a 51-49 Wesco North win against Oak Harbor Tuesday.

“It was back and forth the whole way,” said the Wildcat’s head coach Mike Washington. “Oak Harbor just kept coming back.”

Snohomish’s biggest lead of the game was seven points.

With 10 seconds remaining, Oak Harbor had a chance to tie the game but couldn’t get off a shot.

Zach Wilde, a 6-foot-6 senior, led Snohomish with 24 points while six teammates contributed with three to six points each.

Oak Harbor’s Rodrick Rumble scored 20 points in the Wildcats’ solid effort against the top-ranked Panthers.

Chris McGrath and Matt Reading scored 21 points apiece to lead Cascade. Kale Schmidt hit three 3-pointers in the fourth quarter for Stanwood, but it wasn’t enough to bring the Spartans back.

Highland Christian 74, Lopez Island 65: At Arlington, Highland Christian dealt Lopez it’s first defeat, outscoring the Lobos by 10 points in the third quarter and maintaining that edge to take the Northwest 1B League win. “We came out, really hustled and played tough defense,” Highland coach Jim Underwood said. With the victory, Highland moved to within 1/2 game of the first-place Lobos in the league standings. Lopez’s Jordan Smith led all scorers with 32 points. Highland’s Jon Enge scored 30.
