Snohomish comes from behind to beat Monroe

MONROE – The Snohomish girls basketball team overcame an eight-point deficit to begin the second half to defeat Monroe, 63-58 Friday in the Western Conference North Conference season-opener for both teams.

Tara Angell nailed two 3-point goals and scored seven of her 11 points in the fourth quarter as Snohomish (1-0 league, 3-0 overall) won its third straight game.

“They shot really well from the outside in that fourth quarter,” Monroe coach Alan Dickson said. “We led by as many as 10 points, but we couldn’t slow them down.”

The Panthers, who were led by sophomore Daesha Henderson’s 15 points, scored 49 points in the second half, 35 more than their 14-point output in the first half.

“After the third quarter, it was basically a two-point game from there on,” Dickson said. “That’s okay, we’ll see them again.”

Monroe was 10-for-21 from the free-throw line, 4-for-8 in the second half. Snohomish was 23-for-29.
