Snohomish dominates Wesco rivals

SNOHOMISH – The Snohomish girls track team (110 points) dominated Thursday’s Western Conference meet, winning by 42 points over second-place Arlington (68) at Snohomish High School.

Amanda Stopa (800- and 1,600-meter runs) placed first in two distance runs and Nicole Luckenbach won both throws (shot put and discus), helping Snohomish to four of its eight first-place finishes.

“Stopa ran well today and we were strong in the field events,” Snohomish coach Dan Parker said.

Snohomish’s depth was an issue for Arlington, Oak Harbor and Jackson, placing second in nine events (36 points), third in five events (15), fourth in three events (8) and fifth in three events (3).

“The girls won as a team, it was a good day for us,” Parker said.

Bridgette Walker won the 100 and 200 and anchored the winning 1,600 relay team to lead Oak Harbor.

Whitney Rock won the pole vault and Kristi Kingma won the 400 to pace Jackson.

Arlington had three first-place finishers and placed second in six events.
