Snohomish establishes running game

MARYSVILLE – Former Snohomish coach Dick Armstrong would be proud as the Panthers established the ground game by running over, around and through the Marysville-Pilchuck defense in a 41-12 Western Conference North victory at Quil Ceda Stadium at Marysville-Pilchuck High School Friday night.

The Panthers rushed for 454 yards and six touchdowns on 49 of the 51 total offensive plays. Running back Tom Foisy carried the ball 12 times for 133 yards and fellow back Jacob Darling had 10 carries for 147 yards.

The Panthers kept their playoff hopes alive as they improve to 4-2 in league and 4-3 overall Marysville-Pilchuck is now 2-4, 2-5.

Marysville-Pilchuck took the opening drive 75 yards for a score, ending on a Ryan Swobody 18-yard pass to Evan Adams.

Snohomish answered back in one play taking the momentum back as Darling carried the ball around the right side for a 77-yard touchdown. Darling also had a 4-yard touchdown run in the third quarter.

Foisy scored his first of three touchdowns on a 35-yard run up the middle of the Marysville-Pilchuck defense. Foisy also had touchdown runs of 25 and 5-yards.

Marysville-Pilchuck struck late in the fourth quarter on a double reverse by Mariel Crews, who ran 35 yards up the right side.

Marysville-Pilchuck running back Justin Powers finished the game with 29 carries for 144 yards.

The Panthers ran the final touchdown in with 23 seconds left on a 70-yard run up the middle by Tyler Rothfus.

Arlington 30, Monroe 0: The Eagles kept the Bearcats scoreless and winless with 216 yards rushing and a 175-yard passing attack. The Wesco North victory was capped off for Arlington in the fourth quarter when Monroe fumbled and recovered the ball in its own end zone for a safety.

Oak Harbor 30, Cascade 23: Tom McMickle carried the ball nine times for 46 yards and two touchdowns to lead the Wildcats (4-2 in league, 5-2 overall) over the Bruins (3-4, 3-4) in the Wesco North game.

Oak Harbor’s Grant Bull had three catches for 50 yards. Kyle Shasteen led the Bruins with three catches for 21 yards. Nick Garcia led the Wildcats in rushing with 63 yards.

Kamiak 55, Mountlake Terrace 6: Kamiak, ranked No. 3 in the Associated Press poll, carried the ball 37 times for 328 yards to remain unbeaten. Justin Washington led the Knights with 155 total yards and two touchdowns and teammate David Eneberg rushed for 108 yards on five carries and scored twice in the Wesco South game.
