Snohomish jumps on Arlington early

SNOHOMISH — A Snohomish victory over visiting Arlington and a Monroe loss Friday night would have handed the Panthers a District 1 playoff berth.

Snohomish removed all the suspense on their end early, outscoring Arlington by 21 in the first half, and cruising to a 65-37 Wesco North victory.

“Tonight we did a good job of getting out and running … looking for the early shot,” Snohomish coach Len Bone said.

Zach Wilde scored 16 of his 24 points in the first half and narrowly averted a double-double, finishing with a team-high nine rebounds. Junior Brad Shaw chipped in 12 points, five rebounds and five assists for the Panthers.

The Panthers (11-0 in league) will have to wait a few more days before making official postseason plans, however, as Monroe squeaked out a 58-54 overtime victory over Lake Stevens.

“We’ve done a good job of mixing up defenses all year,” Bone said. “But there are (still) areas we can improve on.”

Arlington, which had six players score Friday night, was led by Cole Carpenter’s nine points.
