Snohomish makes it six Wesco North titles in a row

SNOHOMISH – For the sixth year in a row, Snohomish won the Wesco North boys swimming title, clinching it this year with a 136-50 win over Lake Stevens Thursday at Hal Moe Pool in Snohomish.

The Panthers won every event except one and had five state qualifying times en route to Snohomish’s fifth win of the season.

Now Snohomish is looking ahead toward the postseason.

“(We’re) focusing on district and state,” Snohomish head coach Rob Serviss said.

Eric Pedack won two individual events for Snohomish, achieving state qualifying times in both, and was on two winning relays, including a 200-yard medley relay team that also swam a state time.

Garren Riechel assured the Panthers’ victory, swimming a state qualifying time in the 100 breaststroke, winning the 200 individual medley and participating on the 200 freestyle and 200 medley relay teams.

The Vikings’ lone win was by Trevor Olson, who won the 100 freestyle. He defeated Snohomish’s Michael Turner by nine-hundredths of a second.

Stanwood 112, Cascade 59: At Stanwood, Cory Tobin and Eli Pope each won two individual events and were on two winning relay teams to lead Stanwood to the Wesco North win. Cascade’s lone victory was by its 200-yard freestyle relay team.

Shorewood 115, Meadowdale 55: At Lynnwood, Meadowdale’s Michael Keane swam a 3A state meet qualifying time of two minutes, 5.17 seconds in the 200-yard individual medley and teammate Sam Atkinson won two individual races and swam on the winning 200 medley relay team in the Wesco South meet.

Marysville-Pilchuck 94, Shorecrest 92: At Shoreline, Trevor LeValley won the 100-yard butterfly and swam a state qualifying time while finishing second in the 200 freestyle to help lift Marysville-Pilchuck to victory in the non-league meet. Shorecrest’s Tyler Hayden swam a state qualifying time in winning the 200 freestyle and he won the 100 freestyle.

Everett 2, Cascade 1: At Anacortes, Everett improved to 35-7 thanks to Chrissy Taylor, who had a 186 game and a 505 series. Breanne Mattson had games of 211 and 213 and finished with a 602 series for Cascade (33-9).

Jackson 3, Ferndale 0: At Anacortes, led by Baiba Rubenis, who had a 172 game and a 479 series, Jackson (33-9) defeated Ferndale (14-28).

Mount Vernon 3, Anacortes 1: At Anacortes, Elizabeth Maddax had a 172 game and a 487 series to lead Mount Vernon (10-32) to the victory. Kristen Lyness had a 173 game and a 451 series for Anacortes (1-41).
