Snohomish relay tops state standard

SNOHOMISH – Andy Ferguson won the 50- and 100-yard freestyle races and swam on a winning relay to help Snohomish defeat Oak Harbor 121-63 in a Western Conference North Division boys swim meet Thursday at Hal Moe pool.

Ferguson anchored the 200 medley relay squad to a Class 4A state meet qualifying time of 1 minute, 45.13 seconds.

Snohomish also beat Sehome 136-47 in a non-league meet. Oak Harbor beat Sehome 106-70.

Snohomish’s Jonathan Zander swam a state meet qualifying time of 4:58.34 in the 500 freestyle. Sehome’s Ben Johnson, who also swam a state-qualifying time of 1:47.69 in the 200 freestyle, won the race in 4:53.23. Zander also swam on the winning 200 medley and 400 freestyle relay teams.

Against Oak Harbor, Chris Fulton won the 200 individual medley and 100 backstroke for the Panthers and helped win the 400 freestyle relay. Francis Bernauer and Dan Shurtz were on both winning relays. Bernauer won the 100 breaststroke and Shurtz won the 100 butterfly.

Against Sehome, Oak Harbor’s Kyle Ciminski won the 50 freestyle and 100 breaststroke and swam on the winning 200 medley and 200 freestyle relay teams.

Jackson 98, Meadowdale 72: Three swimmers swam state meet qualifying times in the 100-yard breaststroke in the Wesco South meet. Jackson’s Peter Mullins swam a 4A qualifying time of 1 minute, 2.67 seconds followed by his brother, Andrew, in 1:03.00. Derek Shiu of Meadowdale was third in a 3A qualifying time of 1:03.25. Shiu also swam a state-qualifying time of 2:04.58 in the 200 individual medley. Meadowdale’s Jonathan Keane swam a state-qualifying time of 50.13 in the 100 freestyle. Shiu and Keane also swam on Meadowdale’s 200 medley and 400 freestyle relay teams, which posted state-qualifying times, as well.

At Mill Creek

Holgate added 16 rebounds, six blocks and four steals for S.C.C., which also got a strong contribution from 4-11 point guard Miracle Jackson (four points, six rebounds). Rachel Brown’s 12 points led Master’s Touch.
