Snohomish repels one division rival

SNOHOMISH – Freshman Molly Blue recorded the first multi-win performance in her short high school career Thursday while leading Snohomish past Lake Stevens 135-50 in a Western Conference North Division swim meet.

The Panthers, who’ve won two straight, kept pace with Marysville-Pilchuck for first place in the division with a 3-0 record. The loss dropped Lake Stevens (2-1) to third place.

After winning the 200-yard freestyle (2:12.56), Blue stepped in for injured teammate Debra Shawback to win the 100 backstroke (1:11.19).

“Actually her (Molly) victory in the 100 backstroke was very unexpected,” Snohomish coach John Pringle said. “She had to swim in Debra’s spot because (Shawback) hurt her shoulder earlier in the meet. It was a nice surprise.”

Blue wasn’t the only surprise for Pringle. Freshman Kelsey Randolf won the 50 (26.98) and 100 freestyle races (58.81).

“We are loaded with good freshmen swimmers,” Pringle said. “Freshman Surya Manickam won the 500 freestyle and swam on two of our three victorious relay teams. It was a good day.”
