This is my favorite photograph of Snohomish Slew, and the one that we used in the Herald. The things that I think separate this photograph from the others I made of Slew are the angle, composition, and light.
Even photographing a small, nearly stationary subject, such a Snohomish Slew requires using creativity. This photograph shows some of the different photographs I made of Slew before arriving at the one which was in my opinion the best photograph and was published in the Herald.
The photograph on the lower left is almost the same as my favorite, but not quite.
In my mind, 3 out these 4 photographs would have been good enough to accomplish my job, but being a photojournalist is about always trying to find a better photograph. On this occasion it was easy, just a matter of trying more angles and waiting as Snohomish Slew moved slowly about his tank, other times it much harder to go beyond good enough.
