Snohomish team wins at Hoopfest

The largest outdoor 3-on-3 basketball tournament in the world wasn’t too big a stage for a team from Snohomish.

SBA, a team of 15-year-old boys from Snohomish, went undefeated – putting together a string of six straight victories – to win their bracket at the 2007 Spokane Hoopfest held June 30-July 1.

SBA was comprised of Dylan Manning, Jack Bonner, Jake Steed and Michael Harris, with Gregg Manning and John Bonner as their coaches.

Triple Trouble, a team of 11-year-old girls from Snohomish finished 3-2 at the double-elimination tournament. Coached by Todd Schwartz and Jackie Kimzey, Triple Trouble was made up of Kassie Schwartz, Shelby Kimzey, Samantha Cox and Tessa McIntyre.

Three local teams, the Lk Stevens Hotshotz, Snohomish and Snohomish Fury finished 2-2 in their brackets.

Comprising the Hotshotz, a team of 10-year-old girls, were Alex Briggs, Julia Eaton, Kacie Reichert and Kiersten Thompson. They were coached by Lee Briggs.

Katherine Bonner, Aubrey Pederson, India Smith and Lauren Jones made up Snohomish, a team of 12-year-old girls coached by John Bonner.

Snohomish Fury, a team of 11-year-old girls, was made up of Karley Benoff, Sawyer Manning, Emme Davis and Callie Harwood. Mike Benoff and Manning were their coaches.

Rain wins at End of the Trail tourney: Mokun Fajemisin led the Mukilteo Rain girls basketball team to a 55-51 victory over the Spokane Sparks in the championship game of the 7th grade division at the End of the Trail Basketball Tournament held July 6-8 in Oregon City, Ore.

Fajemisin was named the tournament’s Most Valuable Player and teammates Megan Cross, Renee Lucero and Erika Larson were selected to the All-Tournament team.

The remaining members of the team were: Alee Bryan, Laurenna Plourd, Stephanie Arroyo, Emily Enberg, Sarah Stackhouse and Kate Blackwell. They were coached by Kary Roumeliotis, Brian Larson and Greg Wirtz.
