Snohomish upsets Wesco North leading M-P

Herald staff

SNOHOMISH – The second time, on the third of the month, was the charm for Snohomish.

After losing a one-run game to Marysville-Pilchuck in early April, the Panthers came back in the seventh inning Friday to defeat the Western Conference North Division leaders 2-1.

Kendra Anderson’s double, the only extra-base hit of the game, led off the inning. Two batters later, Beth Whitney drove in Anderson and got on base with a bunt. Dawn Bryan later singled to drive in Whitney from second, ending the game.

Snohomish, just 5-12 on the year going into the contest, was a heavy underdog against their 13-2 counterparts. “We were really excited about the win,” Snohomish coach Sarah Werder said. “We haven’t won a lot of games this year, but beating Marysville-Pilchuck was one of our goals from the beginning of the season.”

The victory was pitcher Courtney Norkin’s first win of the year.
