OLYMPIA – The Snohomish High School volleyball team opened its season with a satisfying four-game victory over Olympia on Tuesday.
“It feels good to beat a team that’s so well-coached,” said Snohomish coach Shirley Siegel, whose team defeated Olympia in the first round of last year’s Class 4A state tournament. “Our team played a really well, and played really cohesively.”
After losing the first game 25-23, the Panthers (1-0 overall) regrouped and won the next three games 25-22, 25-22 and 25-23.
Despite losing five seniors from last year’s team, including Western Washington University’s freshman libero Courtney Schneider, Snohomish overcame their departure with the help of senior outside hitter Megan McGinnis and junior middle hitter Daesha Henderson.
Up next for Snohomish is a jamboree in Fife on Saturday.
