I ran into Tips general manager Doug Soetaert at a recent AquaSox game (OK, maybe it would be more accurate to say he snuck up on me in the press box) and got a few details about training camp:
– Rookies report on Wednesday, Aug. 20, then take the ice for the first time the next day.
– Like last year there will be just three teams worth of rookies, with one game in the morning and one game in the afternoon each day of rookie camp.
– The Green vs. White game will be early on Sunday, Aug. 24 (late morning start). That’s because …
– The vets report on Sunday and will be taking to the ice that evening. That’s a change as in the past the vets haven’t skated until the following day.
– Training camp is once again open to the public.
I haven’t decided for certain yet, but I think I’ll be real-time blogging on the first day of rookie camp again. Sunday’s looking like a possible day for that as well, though I don’t know if it will be as useful to the readers since it’s on the weekend. Feel free to give some input regarding the real-time blogging possibilities.
