The Seattle SuperSonics placed guard Ray Allen on the injured list Monday, hours after he met with doctors in Los Angeles to discuss his ailing right ankle.
The move means Allen will sit out at least five regular-season games – two games against the Los Angeles Clippers in Japan this week, plus three more once the team returns to Seattle. The earliest he could return to the active roster would be a Nov. 12 road game at Milwaukee.
Before leaving Seattle for Los Angeles, Allen said he hoped to undergo arthroscopic surgery to remove a small piece of loose bone or ligament from his ankle. Monday’s announcement made no mention of the kind of surgery Allen is facing, only that he may have surgery later in the week.
Also going to the injured list, as expected, was rookie forward Nick Collison, who will miss the season because of surgeries on both shoulders.
