Forward Rashard Lewis, who missed Friday’s game at Utah because of the death of his brother, rejoined the team on Saturday. The team had a short practice a few hours before the game against the Rockets, which was the first time his coaches and teammates had seen him since he left the team on Wednesday to return to the family home in Houston.
In a brief conversation with Lewis, “I basically asked him if everything was OK,” said Sonics coach Nate McMillan before the game. “He said yes. He’s here and he’s ready to go and we’ll see what happens.”
Lewis sent word the team’s media relations department that he would be happy to answer basketball questions, but did not want to field any questions about his brother’s death.
Allen update: Injured Sonics guard Ray Allen will return to Los Angeles on Wednesday for a Thursday appointment with Dr. Richard Ferkel, the surgeon who removed bone and cartilage fragments from Allen’s right ankle on Nov. 1. Allen is hoping to get the OK to begin a rehabilitation program, with an eye toward returning to action either at the tail end of Seattle’s Dec. 6-12 East Coast/Midwest road trip or for a Dec. 14 home game against Milwaukee.
Allen can walk without discomfort, “and the next level is playing and seeing whether my ankle gets sore when I play,” he said. “But of course I don’t want to jump in and have something negative happen where it puts me back further.”
Last in the league: The NBA calculates a statistic called rebound percentage, which is the percentage of rebounds a team gets – offensive and defensive – out of 100 possible rebounds. The league’s top rebounding team going into Saturday’s game was Utah, which had a 54.1 percentage, just ahead of Portland at 54.0.
The league’s worst? Seattle at 47.2.
