Sophomores lead E-W past Meadowdale

EDMONDS – Sometimes youth and inexperience can be the best cure for ending a two-year losing streak.

With three sophomores leading the charge, the Edmonds-Woodway Warriors defeated rival Meadowdale 48-39 Friday night for the first time in five games and first time since the 2002-03 season.

After going 4-16 last season and graduating 11 seniors, the Warriors have begun this season with three straight wins.

“I don’t think they realize how young they are and how inexperienced they are,” Edmonds-Woodway coach Rob McMains said referring to a team featuring six sophomores.

Sophomore James Conti led the Warriors with 12 points and stepped up defensively with four of the Warriors 13 steals.

Edmonds-Woodway, which didn’t have any offensive rebounds, shot 57 percent from the field.

“It was a good win for us,” McMains said.

“We executed well, got off some good shots and finally started knocking them down.”

Sophomore Connor Donaldson added 10 points for the Warriors.
