Sophs lead Kamiak past Cascade

MUKILTEO – Beware of the Kamiak softball team’s triple-headed sophomore attack.

Cascade fell victim to the second-year trio of Kate Defenbach, Andrea Sherrill and Ashley Kroll, who combined for six hits and four RBI Thursday to boost Kamiak to a 7-4 non-conference victory.

“They’re just natural players that just step on the field and play their game,” Kamiak coach Rachel Kane said of the super sophs. “It’s been nice. They’re stepping up.”

Defenbach was 2-for-2 with a double and one RBI. On the mound, she racked up six strikeouts in six-plus innings and picked up the win.

Kroll also smacked a double for the Knights (2-0 overall).

For Cascade (0-2), Rachel Sofie was 2-for-3. The left-handed hitting Sofie smacked a triple, Cascade’s only extra-base hit, that impressed Kane.

“If it wasn’t for the wind, that one might have been out,” Kane said. “It was just a really nice hit.”
