Sounders FC forward Eddie Johnson and midfielder Brad Evans have been called in to the United States men’s national team January camp.

Selected players will report today to the National Training Center in Carson, Calif. The squad will face Canada in a friendly on Jan. 29 in Houston and visit Honduras for a World Cup qualifier on Feb. 6.

Johnson and Evans will join Sounders preseason training in February. Seattle begins its Major League Soccer regular season at home March 2 against Montreal and will resume CONCACAF Champions League play March 6 against Tigres in Monterrey, Mexico.

Johnson, 28, has 44 caps and 14 goals with the national team, tops on the roster. He scored two goals in two matches to help the USA advance to the final round of World Cup qualifying.

Evans, 27, has six caps. He was called in last January for friendlies against Venezuela and Panama.

Also called in was Houston Dynamo goalkeeper Tally Hall of Gig Harbor and former Sounders defender Jeff Parke, now with Philadelphia.

“There is a tremendous amount of talent in the player pool,” national team coach Jurgen Klinsmann said in a press release. “We follow these players very carefully, and the group coming in is the next line to challenge the players ahead of them in the national team.”
