Seattle Sounders FC announced the signing of Danish midfielder Christian Sivebaek on Wednesday, adding another attacking weapon to a midfield that was a team strength a year ago.
Sivebaek, 23, has played for FC Midtjylland in the Danish Superliga, Denmark’s top league, since 2006. He has also represented his country at the youth level 19 times.
“Christian is a player that we have been following for quite some time,” Sounders FC technical director Chris Henderson said in a press release. “He is a good one-versus-one dribbler who can provide consistent quality service to our strikers. He has good speed and physical presence.
“He has been an up-and-coming player in Denmark, and we are looking forward to adding Christian to our attacking arsenal.”
Seattle already has several attacking options in its midfield with Mauro Rosales, Steve Zakuani, Alvaro Fernandez and Lamar Neagle, but was looking to add depth with the departure of Erik Friberg, who is returning to his native Sweden.

I am very impressed by the professionalism of the club, the high quality of players and staff, and the great number and passion of their fans.”
Sivebaek’s father, John Sivebaek, played professionally for Europe for 17 years and played for Denmark’s 1986 World Cup team and the 1992 squad that won a European championship.
