The Sounders just added a high-profile opponent to their schedule.
The team announced Wednesday it will host the English Premier League’s West Ham United in a friendly match on July 5 at CenturyLink Field. The Tuesday night game will kick off at 7:30 p.m. Tickets go on sale Thursday, though the game is already included in season ticket packages.
West Ham is in the midst of its best season since in England’s top division since 1999, currently sitting in sixth place in the table with one game remaining. Among West Ham’s highest-profile players are French international attacking midfielder Dimitri Payet, who was named the team’s Player of the Year after recording nine goals and 12 assists, and England international forward Andy Carroll.
This will be Seattle’s fifth friendly against a Premier League team. The Sounders have yet to win one of those contests, however in its last game against an English team Seattle drew with Tottenham Hotspur 3-3 in 2014.
