YAKIMA – The South Whidbey teams of Jenny Newman and Chelsea Miller and Katie Newman and Amy Vogt met for third place with the Newman-Miller duo winning 6-4, 2-6, 6-3 at the Yakima Tennis Center. Newman and Vogt were fifth.
4A singles: At University H.S., Spokane, Kamiak freshman Ashley Anderson was eliminated in the consolation semifinals.
4A doubles: At University H.S., Spokane: The Shorewood team of Blossom Cohon and Samantha Lim were knocked out in the consolation semifinals. Edmonds-Woodway’s Ashley Wagner and Joleen Laue were eliminated in the consolation quarterfinals.
3A singles: At Nordstrom Tennis Center, Seattle, Meadowdale’s Lauren Summers won one loser-out match before being ousted in the consolation semifinals. Teammate Whitney Frank also posted a consolation win before losing the consolation quarterfinals.
3A doubles: At Nordstrom Tennis Center, Seattle: Shorecrest’s Ashley Opdyke and Annelise Owen came back from a tiebreaker loss in the first set to defeat Sedro-Woolley’s Michelle Klein and Kristin Twedt, 6-7 (6-7), 6-1, 6-3, for fourth.
2A singles: At Yakima Tennis Center, Lakewood’s Charlee Haugen lost 6-1, 6-1 to Megan Smedley of Tenino in the third-place match.
Boys tennis
4A singles: At University H.S., Spokane, Jackson’s Mike Reading won three loser-out matches before losing in the fourth-place match and finishing sixth.
4A doubles: Shorewood’s Scott Bourne and Steve McCall won the state championship 7-5, 7-6 (7-1) over a team from Kamiakin. The Snohomish pair of Zach Gordon and Tyler Stocker were eliminated in the consolation quarterfinals.
3A singles: At Nordstrom Tennis Center, Seattle, Shorecrest’s Jonathan Tat fell in the consolation quarterfinals.
