MOUNT VERNON – The South Whidbey Falcons qualified both their girls and boys teams with second-place finishes at the Class 2A bi-district meet on Friday at Skagit Valley College.

Braden Giswold, who won the individual championship in a time of 16 minutes, 26 seconds, led the Falcon boys. Bruce Hymas finished fourth and teammate Brett Perkins finished fifth.

Lisa DePender and Julie Gabelein, who finished fourth and ninth respectively, led the Falcon girls.

For the second straight week, the Lakewood boys edged the Falcons for a team championship on a tiebreaker when its sixth runner finished ahead of South Whidbey’s sixth runner. The Cougars and Falcons also tied at last week’s North Cascades Conference meet.

In the Class A/B tri-district meet, King’s qualified for state with a district title for the boys team and a second-place finish for the girls.

King’s boys, Adam Roe, Brandon Thompson, Skylar Agnew, John Caghloun, and Steven Miller placed second, third, eighth, ninth and 10th respectively.

The King’s girls were led by Ashley Watkins, Tricia Hansen and Rachel Wagner, who finished second, third and eighth respectively.
