YAKIMA – Led by repeat doubles champions Jenny Saephan and Kylie Bozym, South Whidbey won the Class 2A state girls tennis title Saturday at the Yakima Tennis Center.
The Falcons, who put both doubles teams into the final match, scored 19 team points, three more than runnersup Cashmere and Cascade-Leavenworth.
Saephan and Bozym defeated teammates Paige Oliver and Jenny Newman 6-3, 6-3 to claim their second straight championship.
“These teams played in the sub-districts and districts as well, and it has always been close,” coach Tom Kramer said of the final match.
4A doubles: At Kennewick, the Edmonds-Woodway team of Deonna Hughes and Sara Allen finished second, losing in the championship final to Marie Carroll and Marissa Flinders of Gonzaga Prep, 6-0, 6-4.
Hughes and Allen won their semifinal match against Nikki Boyum and Haley Montgomery of Southridge, 4-6, 6-4, 6-3.
