EVERETT — Jake Slaughter hit an RBI single in the top of the 10th inning to help lead the Eugene Emeralds to a 6-5 win over the Everett AquaSox on Monday.
Nelson Velazquez scored the go-ahead run on the single after he started the inning on second and advanced to third on a groundout. Later in the inning, Eugene added an insurance run when Slaughter scored on a sacrifice.
In the bottom of the inning, Everett scored on a single by Jansiel Rivera that brought home Geoandry Montilla. However, the rally ended when Mitch Stophel got Ryan Ramiz to hit into a double play with a runner on first to end the game.
The Emeralds tied the game 4-4 in the ninth when Fernando Kelli stole home.
D.J. Artis singled twice, also stealing a base in the win.
Stophel (1-2) got the win in relief while Nolan Hoffman (0-3) took the loss in the Northwest League game.
Eugene took advantage of some erratic Everett pitching, drawing a season-high seven walks in its victory.
Stranding 12 men on base, the AquaSox did not take advantage of some good scoring chances in the loss. Connor Kopach doubled twice and singled, also stealing a base for the AquaSox. Cal Raleigh doubled and singled twice.
