INDIANAPOLIS — Indianapolis Motor Speedway CEO Tony George has been named business leader of the year by the Indiana Chamber of Commerce.
Chamber President Kevin Brinegar says George’s vision has brought positive attention to the state and pumped hundreds of millions of dollars into the local economy. George and his family-owned Hulman &Co. also run the Terre Haute-based Clabber Girl baking powder empire.
The award is based in part on George bringing the MotoGP Series to the track and for leading the unification of open-wheel racing. It was presented Thursday night at a dinner with more than 1,200 business and civic leaders at the Indiana Convention Center.
