In case you missed it, here’s my story on Silvertips spring camp. It was good to get a glimpse of Everett’s prospects, particularly newcomers like Griffin Foulk, Tyler Sandhu, Mitch Skapski and the recent bantam draft picks. Unfortunately, the session I showed up for was limited to power skating, so I didn’t get a chance to see how they played. But Everett’s staff seemed particularly encouraged by what it saw over the weekend. I was told everyone there could skate, and that the skill level was good, too.
Though I didn’t get to see them play, I had the opportunity to talk to Foulk and will say that he is pretty well put together, which suggests he should at least be physically ready for the rigors of the WHL. The most notable absence (other than Ty Mappin, who had a scheduling conflict and is already signed anyway) was winger Austin Mathews. Mathews, from Phoenix, was a third-round pick in the recent bantam draft. He’s billed as a first-round talent who dropped because of the whole CHL/NCAA thing. I guess this means the Tips still have some recruiting to do on that front.
