ST. LOUIS — The St. Louis Rams have released wide receiver Torry Holt, a key member of the team’s “Greatest Show on Turf” days.
The move announced Friday comes three days after the Rams released 33-year-old tackle Orlando Pace.
Releasing Pace and the 32-year-old Holt creates $14 million in salary-cap space for the Rams. The team is trying to get younger as it rebuilds after going 2-14 in 2008 and 5-27 over the past two seasons.
Holt is a seven-time Pro Bowl selection who ranks 11th in league history with 869 receptions and 14th with 12,660 receiving yards. His 80.1 yards-per-game career receiving average is the best in NFL history.
