Stanwood bats erupt in 14-2 win

EVERETT – The other night against Snohomish, Stanwood’s bats couldn’t find a hole.

Wednesday the Spartans found 13 as they stormed past Marysville-Pilchuck 14-2 in five innings in a 4A District 1 loser-out playoff game at Everett Memorial Stadium.

Stanwood advanced to a winner-to-state, loser-out game at 11 a.m. Saturday at Everett Memorial Stadium.

Senior Jordan Northrup led a Spartan onslaught in the top of the third inning, blasting a grand slam to spark an eight-run inning.

“We had a lot of clutch hits with runners in scoring position that inning,” said Stanwood coach Tony Wolden. “The boys came through.”

Doug Joyce started the game for the Spartans, pitching three innings before handing the reigns over to Andy McVey. McVey, who has pitched in all three of Stanwood’s district games, kept his streak going of not giving up a run in the playoffs.

The Spartan defense helped, turning three double plays.
