Stanwood blanks Bruins

MOUNT VERNON – Stanwood starting pitcher Blake Wickstrom blanked the Bruins for six innings in a 9-1 win in a Northwest District loser-out game at Sherman Anderson Field in Mount Vernon.

Stanwood will play at 4 p.m. today at Everett Memorial Stadium against Jackson.

“I felt pretty good out there,” said Wickstrom (3-0), a senior who missed his entire junior season after undergoing surgery on his pitching arm. “Our team was very solid behind me. They got the job done on the field.”

Cascade coach Pat Opel thanked his kids for their hard work. “They’ve worked hard since March 1 and we look forward to next year,” Opel said.
