Stanwood boys top Scots 67-49, earn 6th straight state berth

MILL CREEK — Nate Kummer scored 19 of his 25 points in the second half as the Spartans pulled away to clinch their sixth consecutive state regional berth with a 3A Northwest District tournament semifinal win at Jackson High School.

The victory advanced Stanwood (16-6) to Saturday’s district title game against Marysville Pilchuck.

Stanwood’s Trygve DeBoer added 11 points, including a pair of 3-pointers early in the third quarter that helped the Spartans gain separation. Stanwood outscored Shorecrest 24-12 in the third period, turning a three-point halftime lead into a 52-37 advantage.

Carson Bickford and Mitch Jones added 10 points apiece for the Spartans, who beat Shorecrest (17-5) in overtime last week in the teams’ regular-season finale.

Philip Pepple led the Scots with 16 points and Latrell Jones added 11. Shorecrest, which has lost three of its last four games, will play Meadowdale in a district elimination game on Friday.

Ed.-Woodway 64, Everett 41

EDMONDS — Edmonds-Woodway dominated the second and third quarters, outscoring Everett 35-15, as the Warriors cruised to a home victory in a loser-out game in the 3A District 1 Tournament on Wednesday.

Mutdung Bol scored a game-high 16 points and Michael Epoch added 14 while recording five assists and four steals for Edmonds-Woodway (13-9), which advances to face Arlington on Friday at Jackson High School in another loser-out contest.

Elijah Ross-Rutter led the Seagulls (9-14) with 11 points and six rebounds.

Meadowdale 60, Ferndale 55

LYNNWOOD — Justin Chambers notched a game-high 21 points and hit all four of his team’s 3-pointers to lead Meadowdale to a victory in a back-and-forth battle with visiting Ferndale in a loser-out game in the 3A District 1 Tournament on Wednesday.

Will Schafer chipped in 12 points and Okeoma Okoro 10 for the Mavericks (12-11), who move on to face Shorecrest at Jackson High School on Friday.

Reid Benson scored a team-high 19 points for the Golden Eagles (11-11).
