STANWOOD — Friday night’s scheduled high school football game between Kamiak and Stanwood was canceled just hours before kickoff.
In a statement on its website, Stanwood High School said the game was called off, as well as a girls junior varsity soccer game and a girls varsity soccer game on Thursday, “due to multiple non-school district functions over the past week in the community … (the games were canceled) related to covid exposure.”
Stanwood’s cross county meet and girls swimming meet scheduled for Friday were still moving forward, according to the school, but an update as to the status of the remaining fall sports events will be provided at the beginning of next week.
Stanwood (1-2) is currently scheduled to travel to Marysville Pilchuck in the season finale on Thursday.
Kamiak (3-0) is scheduled to host Cascade on the same night.
As of Friday afternoon, the city of Stanwood had reported a total of 985 cases of COVID-19, per the Snohomish Health District website.
Stanwood recorded 28 new cases during last week, up from 17 new cases during the previous week.
Earlier in the week, the Meadowdale-Shorecrest football game schedule for Friday night was canceled.
No official reason was given for the cancellation.
