Stanwood moves a step closer to goal

STANWOOD – The Stanwood volleyball team took another step toward its goal – making the district playoffs – Tuesday night.

The Spartans defeated Lake Stevens 25-10, 25-15, 25-11 in their Wesco North home opener at Stanwood High School.

Stanwood (2-0 in division, 7-1 overall) was paced to victory by juniors Megan Amundson, who recorded 11 of her team’s 35 kills, and Whitney Appleby, who finished with 29 assists.

Last season, the Spartans finished one game out of district play with a team comprised mostly of sophomores. One year later, those players are now juniors who are coming into their own, which is reflected in Stanwood’s record.
