Stanwood regains first place in the North

STANWOOD — The Stanwood Spartans avenged their only loss of the season with a key 5-4 Western Conference North Division baseball victory Friday.

With the victory, Stanwood (7-1 in league, 11-1 overall) regained first place in the division.

Stanwood built a 3-1 lead after two innings, only to watch Marysville-Pilchuck’s Joe Newland tie the score with a home run in the third inning.

Stanwood reclaimed the lead for good via Tyler Hawley’s two-run home run in the bottom of the third inning.

Spartan pitcher Andrew Davis went the distance, striking out 10.
