The National Wrestling Hall of Fame last week named Stanwood senior Mason Phillips the Washington state recipient of the Dave Schultz High School Excellence Award.
The award recognizes the nation’s most outstanding high school senior boys wrestlers for their excellence in wrestling, academics, citizenship and community service.
Phillips, who will wrestle next season at the University of North Carolina, is a three-time Washington state champion and two-time Greco-Roman national champion. He also won a title at the prestigious Super 32 tournament last year and was a member of the 2017 Cadet World Team.
