Congrats to our four local Class 4A basketball teams who already qualified for the boys and girls state tournaments (March 4-7 at the Tacoma Dome): Mountlake Terrace boys (17-5), Mariner boys (18-4), Snohomish girls (20-2) and Kamiak girls (16-6).

Two 4A state berths are still up for grabs, one for boys and one for girls. The four boys teams still in the hunt are Wesco North No. 3 seed Marysville-Pilchuck (14-7), North No. 2 seed Stanwood (16-6), Wesco South No. 3 seed Jackson (14-9) and North No. 1 seed Lake Stevens (18-4). Tonight at Jackson High the loser-out district tourney matchups are M-P versus Stanwood at 6 p.m. and Jackson versus Lake Stevens at 8 p.m. Tonight’s winners advance to a winner-to-state, loser-out clash 8 p.m. Friday at M-P High.

The four 4A girls teams chasing the final state slot in their district tournament are Edmonds-Woodway (17-5), Oak Harbor (14-8), Jackson (18-4) and Marysville-Pilchuck (15-7). The loser-out games (Wednesday at M-P High) are E-W vs. Oak Harbor at 6 p.m. and Jackson vs. M-P at 8 p.m. The winners battle in the winner-to-state, loser-out contest 6 p.m. Friday at M-P High.

Elsewhere, the 1B state basketball tournaments are Wednesday through Saturday at the Yakima SunDome. Here are the first-round matchups for local teams in the double-elimination tourneys.

Boys

Tulalip Heritage (20-2) plays Pateros at 2 p.m.

North Sound Christian (12-11) plays Curlew at 4 p.m.

Girls

North Sound Christian (13-9) plays Mansfield at 7:30 p.m.

Participating in the state tourney for the second time in three seasons, the Tulalip boys hoops team is led by versatile fifth-year senior Lesjar McKinney. In 2007 McKinney and Tulalip lost in the championship game against Sunnyside Christian.
