State playoff matchups

Meadowdale scouting report Coach: Chad McGuire (6th year) Last appearance: 2004 (6th place) Key players: P Matt Gorman, 6-3, sr. (13.9 ppg, 8.0 rpg); G Paul Werner, 6-2, sr. (12.4 ppg); P Evan Matteson, 6-9, sr. (8.7 ppg, 8.0 rpg, 2.5 bpg); G Roger O’Neill, 6-3, jr. (6.6 ppg).

Lakes scouting report Coach: Jo Jo Rodriguez (2nd year) Last appearance: 2007 (5th place) Key players: G Anthony Enriquez, 6-1, sr. (16.0 ppg); G/W Jermaine Kearse, 6-2, sr. (15.0 ppg); P/W Kavario Middleton, 6-7, sr. (12.7 ppg).

Outlook Meadowdale, the District 1 No. 2 seed, has an imposing task against Lakes, ranked No. 3 in the Associated Press 3A poll. The Lancers return many key players from the group that placed fifth last season and are among the favorites to win it all this week, Meadowdale coach Chad McGuire said.

Lakes girls vs. Meadowdale

When: 10:30 a.m. Wednesday Where: Hec Edmundson Pavilion, Seattle Records: Meadowdale 21-4, Lakes 21-1

Meadowdale scouting report Coach: Dan Taylor (3rd year) Last appearance: 2007 (6th place) Key players: G Eryn Jones, 5-8, sr. (22.0 ppg, 5.0 apg, 5.0 rpg, 4.8 spg); G Hanna Fjortoft, 5-8, jr. (11.5 ppg, 5.3 rpg. 2.5 spg); G Alli Streit, 5-6, sr. (9.0 ppg, 3.3 rpg, 1.5 spg); G Julia Fjortoft, 5-7, soph. (6.8 ppg, 3.6 rpg, 2.2 spg).

Lakes scouting report Coach: Dave McEachern (4th year) Last appearance: 2007 (did not place) Key players: W Sara Halasz, 6-0, sr. (20.3 ppg); G Chene Cooper, 5-1, sr. (15.3 ppg); P Brianna Morrison, 6-0, jr. (10.4 ppg); G Alex Saab, 5-4, sr. (9.2 ppg).

Outlook Containing Lakes’ Halasz, the Lancers’ top scorer, is crucial for Meadowdale, Mavericks coach Dan Taylor said. It should be a fast-paced clash. “Lakes is a really athletic team that loves to push tempo,” said Taylor. “We match up pretty well with regards to height but they are a very quick team.”

Mark Morris boys vs. Archbishop Murphy

When: 2 p.m. Wednesday Where: The Tacoma Dome Records: Archbishop Murphy 12-13, Mark Morris 21-3

Archbishop Murphy scouting report Coach: Jerry Zander (7th year) Last appearance: 2004 (1A, did not place) Key players: F J.D. Melton, 6-4, jr. (10.5 ppg, 7.4 rpg); F JJ Quinlan, 6-3, jr. (7.4 ppg, 5.2 rpg); P Ryan Bourke (9.8 rpg, 4.0 ppg); G Jared Smith, 5-9, sr. (6.0 ppg, 4.2 apg).

Mark Morris scouting report Coach: Bill Bakamus (16th year) Last appearance: 2007 (second place) Key players: G Jeray Key, 6-0, sr. (13.8 ppg); G Jyles Peterson, 5-9, sr. (11.6 ppg); F Eric Hutchison, 6-9, jr. (12.3 ppg, 8.1 rpg); F Matt Trautman, 6-7, sr. (9.3 ppg, 6.4 rpg).

Outlook There’s a major experience gap here. Mark Morris, the 2007 runner-up, is making its ninth-consecutive state-tourney appearance. Murphy is a first-time 2A participant and its only previous trip to state was four years ago (1A). But it would be foolish to overlook a surging Murphy team that has won four of its five postseason contests, said Mark Morris coach Bill Bakamus: “They’re a better team than their record indicates. They’re playing their best basketball at the right time of the season.”

Position key: G = guard, F = forward, W = wing, P = post.

Stats key: ppg = points per game, rpg = rebounds per game, apg = assists per game, spg = steals per game, bpg = blocks per game.
