This is the final week of regular-season track and field meets. League championships are next week, followed by district meets and, finally, state.
I’m working on a story about Sultan High School track standout Rici Morrill, a Boise State University recruit who excels in the mid- and long-distance races. Read about her in Tuesday’s Herald. According to her coach, Morrill, whose first name is pronounced “Ricky,” is the most outstanding female distance runner in Sultan history. Going into her team’s Cascade Conference meet this afternoon at South Whidbey High in Langley, Morrill is ranked among the state’s top 10 Class 2A performers in three events: the 800-meter run (No. 5, 2 minutes, 20.10 seconds), the 1,600 (No. 10, 5:18.60) and the 3,200 (No. 9, 11:41.92)
Speaking of top T&F performers, here are links to Athletic.net’s state leaderboards.
